Football and baseball are indisputably the most popular of the athletic major leagues in the U.S. Whether you go by television ratings, game attendance or profitability, the NFL and MLB are the top dogs. So, for fans of the two, the time period between the end of football season and the beginning of baseball season ' roughly, February to April ' can be quite the torturous period.

The true sports fan can never get enough athletic action. With that being said, there are a couple of options for the baseball and football fanatics to survive the February to April yearly drought.

The NBA All-Star Weekend takes place in mid-February each year. Even those who don't have much appreciation for basketball can find something entertaining between the acrobatic, gravity-defying displays of the dunk competition or the beautiful, sweet-shots of the three-point shootout. If those don't tickle your fancy, you have to be able to admire the athletic ability of the world's greatest players in the All-Star game. And for those who already happen to also be basketball fans, all of you are in luck. As you well know, the second half of the NBA season commences shortly after the All-Star Weekend.

Another option to help survive the drought is to watch spring training baseball. Here's where having satellite TV will come in handy. Most cable and broadcasting networks offer very limited coverage of spring training games. However, with satellite's multiple ESPN channels and other sports networks, you can get all the spring training action that your heart desires. Satellite will provide you with enough action, for sure, until the beginning of April when real MLB action swings into play.

Those very same aforementioned ESPN channels also offer a plethora of other sporting options. You could take in a game of Spanish soccer. A match-up between Barcelona and Real Madrid is exhilarating no matter who you are or what you like. The men's professional tennis tour also rolls on through February and March. The BNP Paribas Open is played in late March and attracts the world's best players. Rafael Nadal happens to be the current defending champion of that event.

If you don't prefer any of the above options, don't forget that with satellite TV you still have hundreds of other non-sporting choices. This time period might be best used catching up on movies that you've missed over the last several months. Satellite is packed full of channels that offer the best movies before they even hit the shelves of BlockBuster or your Netflix queue. Or you can head on over to History and learn a thing or two. There are a multitude of similar educational channels that offer a chance to enjoy and learn at the same time ' that is, provided the unlikely event in which you grow tired of watching the 'lesser sports.'

Whatever you decide you want to watch to pass the time between football and baseball season, satellite TV definitely has you covered. Not to mention that the DVR option will allow you to record shows with the click of a button.
